Even some thousands of years ago, men competed in fights, which lead to modern boxing fights or other forms as for example F1 Racing or soccer. In former days the one who survived or who made the other give up won, because he had a better condition or a better technique or was simply stronger than his opponent (OK, maybe he didn't take a shower for a couple of days and the opponent ran away in disgust ;o) ).

In Quake we could say, this tradition continues. A good quaker needs skill, agility, instinct and training, sometimes a bit of luck. The difference between all other forms of the obove mentioned competitions is: you'll never get physically injured or even killed (and you don't have to smell the others).

Although Quake appears to be 'bloody' or 'martial' we should all keep in mind, that quake is a GAME. Game means in it's basics a social contact between people that share the same interest of having fun in a competitive way. I love games that give me a laugh, just even a good chat during a game keeps me happy. Game also means, that cheating or playing unfair is no way to earn honour.
